Three months later and I’m still cruising in my electric red ranger. I hate getting around by wheel chair, I hate it as much as I hated it way back when I was first learning to walk on a prosthetic leg.
I had hoped I’d feel differently about this situation with Dan in a chair and all but I was fooling myself. Being forced to sit down and zip from place to place has been a serious restriction. I have spent the summer in pain and feeling trapped and un inspired. All summer long I’ve mostly sat and made hats and other knit wear for the fall. This past Friday my awesome assistant Rachael bought me a couple of lbs of soft while merino sliver from the local wool shop and I’m getting back into dyeing and spinning.
Sitting at my wheel for the first time in moths hurt. I couldn’t treadle long enough to get my bobbin half way full before getting a pain in my hip and having to stop. I tried again the next day and finished the bobbin full of yarn and that yarn is completing the last of my waiting room toques.
Yesterday I was properly casted for a new leg socket which will eventually become a new leg to stand on, hopefully I’ll be walking around in a few more weeks.
I won’t have anything to sell for a while but I am entertaining trades. I have a few good trades in the works, 1 with Kim who is an amazing visual artist and book maker. And another with an artist who goes by jenny bird.: http://www.jennybirdart.com/
Take at look at her dolls!!!! I’m currently going through my best bits and ends gathering up a big bunch of strands to send her way to be used as hair on her amazing dolls:)
I will be back with posts of the hats I have finished and all the other good stuff that kept me seated and occupied during my seemingly long recovery. I need a new card reader so in the meantime I’m counting on my sweet little laptop with it’s built in camera , the pictures are not the best but better than no pictures at all.

this is the blue wool i dyed for kim. my webcamera picture isn't picking up on the dark blues but i think it's what you're loking for?
this is going to be a 1920's style hat i'm making as a trade for some of kim's artwork. kim, if you are reading this.. before i start carding what do you want me to add? sparkle? other bits of colour?
i already have the inspiration/the idea of what the hat will look like inspired by your head and sence of style. let me know when you see this so i can get working on it.

If you only knew how hard life can be when you are a woman with 1 arm, 1 leg, severe p.t.s.d. a quadriplegic boyfriend always in pain, invisible limb pain, and too much time but never enough time. And etc etc etc
Dan’s parents are visiting from Nova Scotia and have taken a load off. I should be away on a holiday but my robot leg needs to go into the shop asap meaning I’ll be sort of stuck sitting around for a while. I always put off going in for repair until it gets beyond repair.
I’m going to spend the weekend trying my best to stay still and do something mindless in bed as much as possible even though I know it’s next to impossible as I can’t sit still for very long unless I’m asleep. Even on my worst days I’ll be crawling around doing too much but today after tripping and falling (in the sand) twice and almost flying head first into the bedroom wall an hour ago I’ve decided enough is enough. My poor angry stumpy leg will thank me for it. It’s so numb i can’t really feel when I step off or hit the ground.
Tonight I’m very grateful for medicinal marijuana. Thank you doctor. Thank you pot shoppe

And just so this post isn’t all bitchy and moany here’s a yarn that is so amazingly soft. Dan and I have a friend who’s father collects qiviut from the bushes and trees where the musk-ox scratch themselves. She was here visiting from the Yukon and brought some of it to me:) I’ve been using it sparingly as it’s the softest fluff I’ve ever ever ever held in my hand. I adore it. Mmmmmmmmmmm qiviut!!!!!!

I’m going through the phases of the head cold. Rachael came over last night and she sounded just like me. Two of us with the same symptoms and scratchy masculine voices.
I made coffee and can’t taste it. Dan’s Friday helper broke my french press. A few days ago I broke my magic bullet. I’ve used that magic bullet every single day for over a year. It rocked and now it’s landfill.
Being sick has given me time to crochet a few simple toques for next season. I’ve started a new crochet skirt.
This sucks, my head hurts
so I’m a going back to the sofa.

An exercise in spinning thin

. 46WPI. Mohair sliver dyed lavender-ish. I don’t know the length. I had to use up the rest of the purple. I’m not a purple person and only dyed some stuff purple because it was the color of choice from my secret yarn swap partner. I wouldn’t usually ever use purple but in the next batch of yarn purple will maker an appearance as I had to use it to get it out of my stash.
This tiny yarn is two ply if you can believe it. I filled my bobbin and then plied it onto itself. I don’t know what this method of plying is technically called. i prefer to buy tiny yarn like this. making it was boring.
I used it to ply an easter egg tablet dye job turned yarn.

I’ve been gimpy. Dan and I had two of our favorite house guests over this weekend and we were all pretty gimpy together. I could hardly walk, Dan was going through serious neck pain issues, S came down with a bad cold, and R was going through technical difficulties with her brain implant pace maker. Geesh. Dan’s doing much better now; I’m still hobbling around and getting depressed, missing my pug walks through the beach forest and just pain free walking in general. When my leg starts causing me grief I get extremely frustrated, even too frustrated to do anything about it. I hobble along and do damage to my leg stump that rattles and knocks around inside the socket. I blame it on the xyban because it took my appetite away and I lost about 15lbs while quitting smoking ciggs.
Weight loss or gain, 2 lbs even = public enemy #1 as far as wearing weight bearing limbs go.

Wednesday- Friday, maybe even till Saturday I stayed in stinky pajamas and made a lot of yarns to keep myself level headed. Saturday I tried to shake myself out of it and dressed for going out only I didn’t go anywhere. Laid on the sofa and cut scraps of pictures for tiny mini art cards I’ll be including with each yarn.. I’m thinking I want to have a grand opening as soon as I get my gallery pages up on the .com. and that’s when I’ll include some arty extra surprises. I’m not used to being laid up like this and finding little ways to keep awake and occupied make the days much better. It’s really easy to fall asleep on my sofa while watching tv and I’m trying to avoid going down that dead rut road.
So far so good so it’s ok for now.

When I made it I was thinking it was to be the perfect foil hat ever. I tore an emergency foil blanket into long strips. It wasn’t the easiest to spin so I had to take it real slow to
Make sure the fibers would stay stuck to the foil parts and the threads spun tightly around where the foil blanket strip ended. Not the easiest thing to do with one hand but I couldn’t be happier about the way it turned out. Everything I did over the weekend involved shredding amazing materials :)

I mean..errr.. afternoon. My sleep is all screwy again and I’m fading back to all nighters and sleeping during the day. I went through years of a major sleep disorder so I’m fighting this will all my might. Last night I stayed up and doodled around at my carding station blending together some leftovers and I dyed a handful of dog brushings pumpkin to add to the mix :)
I can’t wait to peel everything off of the chomper and spin spin spin.

It’s nice to be back in stock with Lincoln again:):) I know I keep typing about this wool, I talk about it a lot too and when I have company I bring it out and show it off. Ha!

This is my new yarn called ADORA.

It’s Lincoln the way Lincoln should be. All mixed up with bits of stuff that I know will felt around the locks. When I spin it I try to keep it loosely spun. Off of the bobbin the yarn looks very polished, consistent, and smooth. Then, it gets felted like crazy and everything tightens up and loosens up and softens and explodes into my idea of heaven.

The very first yarn I’d ever bought from pluckyfluff, back in her ebay days, was sherbet colored Lincoln. Love at first sight/touch.
Since then I’ve been looking for the perfect source and last year I found it. Lincolnlongwool.com takes pride in their sheep.
I love how I get to put a face to the fleece and I reserve the wool by name. The Sheppard’s of the flock are wonderful as well.

Still not a great detailed pic. I guess I’ll show it in more detail once it has become something else. Scarf? Maybe a sweater for my pug?
I love how the colors came together; I dyed most of it together in a roasting pan in the oven with earthy and electric shades of smoke. I’m crocheting 2 new hats right now and then I’ll move on to this yarn.

Rachael picked up some new yarn and posted a few to etsy. She brought back the last batch I’d made because I couldn’t let them go without better photographs for my files. Separation anxiety?
When I make yarn I’m making it for myself. Every time.
I’ll make enough for my project but can’t stop and put the wheel away. just keep going and going and 4 days and 7 yarns later I’ll take what I need and set the rest aside. There have been a lot of times where I’ve hoarded a particular yarn for 7 months before deciding I’d rather see what someone else could do with it.

Lat summer when Ana Voog came to visit I couldn’t resist giving her some of my favorites. I sent her home with my stash of wire core yarn knowing she’d bring it alive. AND SHE DID! Go drool over her contribution to the NEW UPCOMING PLUCKYFLUFF BOOK!!! Intertwined
