Lace gloves

First post here, though I've enjoyed reading about all your projects. I've been trying to find a site or a book that will tell me how to crochet lace gloves like these (opens in new window), as it looks like a normal grid that's magically been made to go diagonally and, try as I might (and I have), I can't work out how it's done. Searches for every possible variation on 'lace glove crochet pattern' have yielded many patterns for nice warm woolly gloves but none that I like for crochet cotton ones. I just want that stitch, really, and sites keep giving me other stitches and more exciting patterns. I'm a simple girl, I just want a simple pattern! Any help would be gratefully received.

HAALP! web help needed. bad.

me and my bff, kahlo
hey all, so it was brought to my attention that luxefibre.com was MIA. gone. i figured out after a little while that the host had cancelled it. i assume the credit card it was on expired or got paid off, one or the other. they claim that they contacted us, but we got no emails and no calls. that said, they say that i can't reactivate it, it is gone. the guy that did the site for me has the files, i just need someone to put them up for me or talk me through it. i have no clue what to do. my brudder knows how to do it but is on deadline and has no voice. haaaallllp! i swear, after this, i will learn to at least kind of take care of things myself. i swear it. we are going on vacation friday, so this couldn't have happened at a worse time. shoot me a message or email if you know someone that can help and would like to be paid in yarn. or money. or softies. or cat fur. whatever they fancy.

better

in a better mood
finished Chuck's 1/2 sleeve
it turned out lovely
but my camera died after 2 photos
so he's going to come back
after completely healing
he takes ink wonderfully
and heals quickly
how nice

ended up forcing myself
to make peanutty pad thai
with tofu, eggs and peas
it was really good
except for the fact
that I bought the big peas
ick! they're so dry.
and I made the whole thing
in 30min or less
so there world!

there's a BIG piece of ice cream pie
upstairs tempting me
I will succumb
I think
at least to a small piece of it

oh and here's a pic I finally got today
boobie tattoos ahead! )
they healed up pretty well I think
it was a strange request
but one I can see happening
more these days
she saw it on suicide girls somewhere
I had someone in the chair
so she was nice enough
to let me get a shot
right in my front room
her friend has black stars
but I didn't get to check those out
I personally think the pink hearts
would be a better choice

ok shop's closed
and I've got to get some dishes done!
and ice cream pie eaten...

Two Gifts I made

This month has been really busy with graduations and wedding. Here are two items I made as gifts. They are handkerchiefs I made.
First I cut a square of fabric, punched holes into the edges with my edgerydoo and then crochet the edges. Both edges are my own design. The purple edged one is for my cousin's graduation and the blue edged one is a bridal shower gift for my friend. I am also making her a garter and I will post it when I am done.
Click on the pictures to see it larger.

le sigh

been
very
unmotivated

hungry
but don't want to cook
maybe I'll make mac-n-cheese
and eat some peanuts

my rice cooker broke
or the pan had a bad leak
so I bought a new one today
it's bigger than the last

what I really want is taco bell
what is wrong with me?!

bought $40 worth of groceries
thought that might help
hmmmm nope
there's still time
to make SOMEthing...

busy tattoo week ahead
wanting warmer weather already
maybe I'll run to the asian food store
and buy some tofu
so I can make pad thai
more protein rich and tasty I'm sure
sadly I don't even have time to go get Taco Bell

Not actually glum
just anxious about a lot
many things happening right now
none of which am I prepared
to discuss here

clinically afraid of jinxing things.

My grandmother spent a year or so crocheting me a pretty black shrug. Despite taking measurements, it's pretty big on me and I want to shrink it some, but I'm kind of paranoid I'll damage it or something. I don't want to call her and say "It's huge on me, what do I do?" because I think it would hurt her feelings. :/

Should I maybe try getting it slightly damp and putting it in the dryer for a few minutes?

What sites do you use to search for airline tickets?

Starghan Size

For those of you who have made star-afghans, what is the typical size? I've started two that I am planning to donate to a local hospital for them to give to babies born there. However, I've reached that point where it is taking ages to just do one round, and I'm about ready to stop. The only problem is that I'm not sure they are big enough yet. I wouldn't want to donate something that wouldn't be useful, so I would appreciate some info on how big they need to be to be useable. Be sure that you tell me how you are measuring (point to center, point to point, etc), since the unusual shape makes it more difficult to get a feel for the actual size.

Thanks!

Bit of help, please.

In a little over two weeks, I'll be leaving home (New York) for Japan for a little less than a year. I have looked at the TSA permitted/prohibited list and crochet hooks are listed as being permitted (I'm bringing plastic in my carry on just in case), as well as small blunted scissors.

I would just like to know if anyone has any experience with Japanese airlines and their crochet goods policies? I don't want to get to LA only to have my things taken away before getting on the flight to Japan. I'm terrified of flying, and I'll be going the whole 19 hours by myself, so I'd like to be able to make a few things to keep me calm while on the planes.

Also, if anyone is living in Japan, do you know any places I can buy yarn and other goodies? I'll be in Hikone in Shiga prefecture from June to August and then Tokyo from the end of August to May.

Any advice about what I should do for the flights, and any help in finding places for crochet goods while I'm there is greatly appreciated.

Money money money! DUN DUN! Must be funny! DUN DUN!

I have two and two-thirds of a job now, and I'm still broke. Josh has no job, but he's a star at audio engineering so that's kind of his job. Hey Centerlink, hurry up please!

My jobs:

EB Games - 10 hours a week (if I'm lucky). Someone come visit me! Thursday, 5pm - 9pm.
Melbourne High - 9 or 12 hours a week.
Baby sitting - 6 hours a week.
Cleaning - maybe once a week, an hour or two for Josh and I together.

The baby sitting is a new one actually... I forgot what a gem of a job it is. Looking for more kids to sit on as we speak. I'm sitting on a German toddler twice a week, and we just play in the sandpit and have fun and I get paid. And if I get some night-time sitting jobs, I only have to spend an hour or two playing and then I have time for Zombolette, or homework once uni starts. If I get in. Jeez I'm so worried I won't get in.

The greatest part is that if I sit on babies during uni, Centerlink doesn't need to know! Cash-in-hand = can't be taxed. Scarlette wins Austudy! Actually... do I still get Austudy if I own a house? I sure hope so. Mortgage, how am I going to pay you?

P.S. Josh is my favourite. I get so many calls and messages from him every day, even though I live with him! Times are so fun! It's nice that we're busy all day so that when we get home, we can't stop gas-bagging :>
